On 23.-24.10. two lectures will take place at MU as part of the Open Science Week international campaign, this time on the subject of predatory journals.

Programme

This year's Open Science Week at MU will focus on the issue of predatory journals. On Monday, there will be a lecture by Prof. Daniel Králl, who will share his experience with determining the quality of journals in the field of mathematics, which he gained during his many years of publishing experience. On Tuesday, there will be a lecture by foreign guest Emanuel Kulczycki, whose long-term research interest is in predatory journals and the implications of this issue for evaluating science.

prof. RNDr. Daniel Kráľ, Ph.D., DSc.

In 2018, prof. Král moved to the Faculty of Informatics of Masaryk University in Brno, Czech Republic, where he have been the inaugural holder of the newly established Donald Ervin Knuth Professorship, which the university has created with the permission of Donald Knuth. He is co-heading the Laboratory of Discrete Methods and Algorithms (DIMEA) of the Faculty. He is also honorary professor at the University of Warwick, where, before moving to Brno, he was a professor of mathematics and computer science and a member of its research centre DIMAP.

Dr. Emanuel Kulczycki

Emanuel is a social scientist, currently serving as head of the Scholarly Communication Research Group (SCRG AMU), and an associate professor at Adam Mickiewicz University, Poznań, Poland. His academic background is in philosophy and communication, which has driven his passion for investigating critical aspects of scholarly communication. His research primarily focuses on the nuances of predatory publishing and the far-reaching consequences of research evaluation systems.
