The Researchers’ Night attracted more than 600 curious visitors

This year’s Researchers’ Night, held on the last Friday of September, attracted thousands of visitors across the country. As in previous years, our two teams also took part in the programme of this popular science event. In the KYPO Lab at the Faculty of Informatics, Masaryk University, we presented two forms of “wealth” hidden in data and in cyberspace.

More than 600 people visited our exhibition, appreciating the practical demonstrations as well as the opportunity to take a look behind the scenes of open science and cybersecurity. Both teams aligned their prepared programmes with this year’s Researchers’ Night theme — Wealth.

Wealth in Data: Creating Science Together
The joint Open Science and EOSC CZ team showed visitors how Citizen Science works — the involvement of the public in research. The idea is that anyone can become a partner of scientists, whether by collecting and evaluating data or by sharing knowledge. Citizen Science thus brings real wealth not only to experts, but also to society as a whole.

Wealth in Cyberspace
Experts from the cybersecurity team demonstrated that the greatest wealth of today lies in information. Visitors could experience firsthand how easily attackers can threaten their data, privacy, or finances — and they took away practical tips on how to stay safe in the digital world.
