| Closing Remarks |
Professor Šárka Pospíšilová is an expert in molecular genetics, with a particular focus on the tumour genomics of lymphoid leukemias. She is the author or co-author of more than 200 scientific publications in international peer-reviewed journals, seven patents, and several professional books. She is an active member of EMBO and several other prominent national and international professional societies focused on genetic and hematological diseases. She also represents the Czech Republic in the international Genome of Europe initiative and is engaged in science communication in the field of genetics. Since 2019, she has served as Vice-Rector for Research and Doctoral Studies at Masaryk University.
Marika Hrubá is an Open Science Manager at Masaryk University. In her role, she focuses on supporting open science, particularly open access to publications, research data management, and the development of open science services. She helps researchers navigate the principles of open science and identify practical ways to share their results transparently and in line with funder requirements. She is also involved in training the academic community and in developing institutional policies and tools that promote openness, collaboration, and the broader impact of research.
She works at the intersection of technology, research, and open science support. She is involved in the development of the National Data Infrastructure and has long focused on research data management, sharing, and preservation. Combining a background in the humanities with practical IT experience, she views data primarily as a tool that should support researchers in their everyday work, and focuses on translating the principles of open science into real research practice.
Jiří Poláček studied mathematics, computer science, and pedagogy, but has worked in libraries for more than twenty years. He currently serves as Head of the Library Systems and Open Science Department at Masaryk University. His interests include data analysis, information literacy, support for open science, and the strategic development of library services at the university.
Lucie Janků is a secretary and coordinator of training activities within EOSC CZ, focusing on research data management. She earned her PhD in 2022 at the Institute of the Czech Language, with a background in theoretical linguistics. In her educational approach, she prioritises quality over quantity, supports students’ individual interests, and advocates for alternative teaching methods.
Andrea Stříbrná is a representative of the EOSC CZ Training Centre.
Martina Dvořáková is an editor at Munipress, specialising in the publication of scholarly and popular science books. In addition to her editorial work, she coordinates the Czech National Centre for Diamond Open Access, based at Masaryk University, and serves as secretary of the Association of European University Presses. She also collaborates on the CRAFT-OA project, contributing to the development and dissemination of tools supporting diamond open access journal publishing.
Jiří Vorel is originally a bioinformatician and currently works as a user support specialist within the national grid infrastructure MetaCentrum. He has extensive experience in processing biological data and distributed computing. He regularly organises training sessions and hands-on courses focused on the effective and proper use of the MetaCentrum computing environment and related services.
Luděk Matyska is a member of the EOSC Steering Committee and a professor at Masaryk University, where he works in the fields of computing and research infrastructures. He is also the Director of CERIT-SC, which provides advanced computing services for the Czech and international scientific communities. His work focuses on advanced technologies for managing and processing large-scale data. Throughout his career, he has specialised in building national and international e-infrastructures that support scientific research. Within the EOSC Steering Committee, he is responsible for coordinating activities related to the development and integration of European cloud services for research.
She serves as the secretary of the EOSC CZ Working Groups and contributes to building the national ecosystem for FAIR research data management. Within the IPs EOSC-CZ project, she coordinates the activities of expert communities and supports user engagement. She is the Head of the Community and User Care Department at CERIT-SC, part of e-INFRA CZ. In her research work, she focuses on the development of cellular components and biomaterials for lung tissue engineering at Masaryk University.
Matej Antol is the lead project manager of the IPs EOSC-CZ project, integration manager of the Czech e-infrastructure e-INFRA CZ, and Executive Director of one of its three partners, CERIT-SC, established at the Institute of Computer Science of Masaryk University. He has extensive experience in managing IT and research projects. As part of his work, he has developed a platform for coordinating IT service management at Masaryk University, the SensitiveCloud environment for handling sensitive data, and other solutions. His research activities focus on the management and analysis of complex and high-dimensional data (such as imaging data or structural biology data) using artificial intelligence techniques.
April, known as Citizen Science Month, offers many exciting projects for volunteers to join. The closest upcoming events include the City Nature Challenge, and the Missing Maps Mapathon.
April is dedicated to citizen science, which has become an increasingly important part of research and open science in recent years. How are data collected from the public actually used in practice? What benefits and challenges does this approach bring? And what is needed for its further development in the Czech Republic? We asked three researchers – Alena Fornůsková (Czech Academy of Sciences), Jakub Trojan (Faculty of Science, Masaryk University), and Michael Lažan (Senzorvzduchu, z.s.) – who have long been involved in citizen science.
